Admittedly, this is the topic I know the least about but it is something I have been thinking about a lot lately. What exactly is eco-friendly travel? What does it look like? What kind of environmental impact can be made with eco-friendly travel? Well, my research led me to a few articles that were very insightful. Please give them a read if you are interested in eco-friendly travel!
"What is 'green travel,' anyway? A beginner's guide to eco-friendly vacation planning" - Washington Post
”Eco-Friendly Travel: An A to Z Guide to Not Killing the Planet When You Travel” - Condé Nast Traveler
”40 Green Travel Tips (The Ultimate Guide to Sustainable Travel)” - Green Global Travel
“The truth is that sustainable travel (a.k.a. ecotourism) is all about making simple choices in order to lessen your negative impact on a given destination.” - Green Global Travel
Eco-friendly travel does not have to be a big huge thing. It is all about making simple changes in the way we travel (or maybe sometimes not so simple changes - for instance, taking a train instead of a plane). Bring your own toiletries with you to a hotel. Walk or bike instead of taking a cab. Choose local restaurants instead of national chains when eating out. Turn off lights when you leave the hotel room. Reuse your towels and bed linens. Bring your reusable water bottle around with you. Book e-tickets to events instead of printing paper tickets. Leave no trace. Recycle. Choose “green” destinations. Maybe travel somewhere in driving distance so you don’t have to fly.
Any steps we can take to travel in a more sustainable and eco-friendly way all add up to create a positive impact on our environment. So do some research before your next vacation and practice eco-friendly travel!
